ASVAB: General Science

The General Science subtest of the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) assesses a candidate’s knowledge across various scientific disciplines. This subtest is available in two formats: a computer-adaptive test and a paper-and-pencil test. The computer-adaptive version contains 15 questions and lasts 10 minutes, while the paper-and-pencil version has 25 questions and a time limit of 11 minutes.

The General Science subtest covers a broad range of scientific topics, including life science, physical science, and earth and space science. In the life science category, it examines knowledge of ecology, zoology, botany, and anatomy and physiology. The physical science portion focuses on chemistry and physics. Earth and space science questions cover astronomy, geology, meteorology, and oceanography.

This subtest evaluates a candidate’s general understanding of scientific principles and concepts across these diverse fields. The knowledge assessed in this section is typically at a high school level and helps determine a candidate’s aptitude for various military occupations that require scientific knowledge or reasoning.
