ASVAB: Auto Information

The Auto Information subtest is a component of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). It assesses a candidate’s knowledge of automotive technology, including components, systems, maintenance, and repair procedures.

In the computer-adaptive version of the ASVAB, the Auto Information subtest consists of 10 questions, and test-takers are allotted 7 minutes to complete this section.

For those taking the paper-and-pencil version of the ASVAB, the Auto Information subtest is combined with the Shop Information subtest. This combined section contains a total of 25 questions, and candidates are given 11 minutes to complete it.

The content of the Auto Information subtest covers a range of automotive topics, including:

  1. Automotive components (e.g., engine parts, transmission, brakes)
  2. Vehicle systems (e.g., electrical, cooling, fuel)
  3. Routine maintenance procedures
  4. Basic automotive repair concepts

This subtest helps the military assess a candidate’s aptitude for roles involving vehicle maintenance and repair. A strong performance on this section may indicate suitability for automotive-related occupations within the armed forces.
