What’s on the Middle Level SSAT?

For the Writing sample, you can either write a personal response or a story.

The Quantitative section includes questions that involve arithmetic, basic algebra, and geometry. Many questions will require you to understand how mathematical operations are expressed in words.

The Reading passages on the Middle Level SSAT will be between 250 and 350 words. Some passages will tell a story or describe a subject, while others will make an argument. The passages may be poetry or prose, fiction or non-fiction. They are drawn from a range of subject areas, including literature, science, and social studies. You will have identify main ideas and details, make inferences, define words in context, identify the author’s purpose, and assess the strength of an argument.

The experimental section of the Middle Level SSAT includes Verbal, Reading, and Quantitative questions.
